Travelogue: Colorado

May 18, 2009

I recently flew to Colorado to attend a good friend’s undergraduate commencement ceremony, and took some time to visit with friends and play tourist a bit. Of the 300+ shots I snapped over 10 days, here are the ten pictures that best capture my trip. There are several other important moments as well, and some of them are on my Facebook page, so mosey over there for a few more.

Music & Where It Takes Me

October 16, 2008

Ok, so, with the ability to edit, re-edit, and edit again, I’m going to compile an expanding list of music that has seeped out of my life. Some I should have held on to a bit tighter and some I was right to let slip away, but each artist speaks to a specific moment in my life. Even if an individual song makes me shake my head in wonder it’s the moment that I’m after. I , therefore, make no apologies *snicker* * snicker*

I suspect that most of these titles are out of print but this will serve as a starting point for memories familiar. Some are albums, some are individual songs.

  • Melissa Ferrick  Massive Blur speeding down winding roads in Germany in the summer
  • Meryn Cadell Angel Food For Thought Washington sleet on Friday nights, my Toyota Corolla, and Tara
  • INXS Shabooh Shoobah carrying my guitar case to Chris’s house after school
  • Laurie Anderson O Superman late Sunday nights on the radio, turned down almost too low to hear
  • School of Fish School of Fish the common room and a sign from Dawn
  • Sritti Politti Cupid & Psyche 85 still settling into the new condo
  • Rhythm Corps Common Ground 4th of July parade on the Detroit river
  • Colin Hay Hold Me riding my bicycle to the YMCA and the candy store. (The video still kinda freaks me out)
  • The Cars Heartbeat City college girls from Vermont, lacrosse in the backyard
  • The Sundays Reading Writing and Arithmetic riding in the back of Andi’s car
  • Weird Science Soundtrack Track & Field away games (side 2 > all John Hughes soundtracks)
  • Melissa Etheridge Melissa Etheridge scurrying to the mall right before prom
  • Charlie Sexton Pictures For Pleasure discovering on the school bus that music can convey emotion
  • Taco After Eight riding with my mom while fighting pubescent angst
  • Daniel Amos Vox Humana feeling synth-pop futuristic while spinning wildly in the living room
  • Killing Joke Brighter Than A Thousand Suns finding my way in Germany
  • The Lemonheads It’s A Shame About Ray finding a good friend in Germany

As I add to this list, I add some of the more memorable ditties to my Floated Away playlist over at last.fm. I only wish I had fewer placeholders and more songs.
